How Does Invisalign® Work?

Designed for greater comfort and to be more discreet than traditional braces, Invisalign and Invisalign Teen offer adults and teens a convenient way to straighten their teeth. Invisalign uses a series of custom-designed, clear and removable trays to gently move the teeth into proper position for improved function and aesthetics.

The clear aligner applies light pressure to teeth that are out of alignment, shifting them into the correct placement without using wires, brackets, or metal pieces. Just like traditional braces, Invisalign can address a wide range of dental concerns, including overbite, underbite, crossbite, misalignment, gaps between teeth, and crowded teeth.

FAQ

Invisalign® or ClearCorrect
vs
Braces

Invisalign® and ClearCorrect are effective for treating a wide range of orthodontic issues, including mild to moderate cases. They use custom-made aligners or trays to gradually shift teeth into place. However, severe cases or certain types of bite issues may still require traditional braces for optimal results.

Treatment duration varies based on individual cases. Generally, Invisalign® or ClearCorrect treatment can take anywhere from several months to a few years, similar to braces. The exact time depends on the complexity of the case and how well the patient follows the treatment plan.

Treatment duration varies based on individual cases. Generally, Invisalign® or ClearCorrect treatment can take anywhere from several months to a few years, similar to braces. The exact time depends on the complexity of the case and how well the patient follows the treatment plan.
Invisalign® aligners and ClearCorrect trays are virtually invisible when worn, making them much less noticeable compared to traditional braces which use metal brackets and wires.
Invisalign® and ClearCorrect generally have minimal impact on speech compared to braces. Some patients may experience a slight adjustment period with speech initially, but it tends to improve quickly as they get used to wearing aligners or trays.
Invisalign® and ClearCorrect aligners are typically more comfortable than braces because they are made of smooth plastic and do not have sharp brackets or wires that can irritate the mouth and gums.
Both Invisalign® and ClearCorrect require regular check-ups with the dentist or orthodontist, usually every 4-6 weeks. This schedule is similar to braces, where adjustments or progress checks are made to ensure treatment is progressing correctly.
Invisalign® and ClearCorrect aligners are removable, so they require regular cleaning and should be worn for at least 20-22 hours per day for effective treatment. Braces are fixed and require careful brushing and flossing around the brackets and wires to prevent plaque buildup and cavities.
Invisalign® and ClearCorrect aligners should be removed when eating or drinking anything other than water to avoid staining or damaging the aligners. Braces do not have this restriction, but certain foods should be avoided to prevent damage to brackets and wires.
Invisalign® and ClearCorrect treatment costs can vary widely depending on the complexity of the case and the provider. Generally, they tend to be comparable to braces in terms of cost, but individual insurance plans may cover them differently.
When worn as directed and with proper retention afterward, Invisalign® and ClearCorrect can achieve long-term results comparable to braces. Both treatments require a retention phase to prevent teeth from shifting back to their original positions.
